Matt Hunwick is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman currently working in player development for the New York Rangers. Born May 21, 1985, in Warren, Michigan, he played 12 NHL seasons with teams including the Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Buffalo Sabres. Hunwick was a strong two-way defenseman known for his reliable puck-moving and defensive abilities. After retiring from playing, he moved into coaching and development roles, including volunteer assistant coach at the University of Michigan before joining the Rangers' hockey operations. He now serves as an assistant development coach, focused on helping Rangers' prospects and young players advance their skills and reach their NHL potential.
