Don Sweeney is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenseman and the current general manager of the Boston Bruins. Born August 17, 1966, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Sweeney was drafted by the Bruins in 1984 and played four years of college hockey at Harvard University before joining the NHL. He spent 15 of his 16 NHL seasons with the Bruins, skating in over 1,000 games for the team and ranking among their all-time leaders in games played, goals, assists, and points by a defenseman. After retiring in 2004, Sweeney transitioned to an executive role, eventually becoming the Bruins’ general manager in 2015. Under his leadership, the Bruins have achieved consistent success, including multiple playoff runs and President’s Trophy wins. He has also served as a manager for Team Canada in international tournaments.
